The Theatre of Nations. Completion of the reconstruction.

September 15, 2011 is a momentous day for Moscow and the entire theatre community in Russia. The Theatre of Nations was finally opened after a reconstruction for more than four years. It is a unique structure within the system of the Russian theatre. The Theatre was established in 1987 under the name of Theatre of Friendship of Nations and in 1991 was renamed into State Theatre of Nations.

The Theatre of Nations engages in intensive production activities: developing and carrying into effect a variety of theatre projects, organizing international and national festivals, presenting the best productions made in Russia and in other countries that represent many different genres and styles. The Theatre also makes its own stagings, its ultimate purpose is to become the center for upbringing the new generation of theatre practitioners.

The State Theatre of Nations is located in a historical building, since 1885 it had been occupied by the largest Russian private theatre "the Russian Drama Theatre", better known as Korsch Theatre, which was disbanded in 1932. Later it was used as a subsidiary stage for the famous Russian Moscow Art Theatre (MXAT). And finally it is The State Theatre of Nations.

At the press-conference devoted to the opening of the theatre after reconstruction its Artistic Director, famous Russian actor, the recipient of the Russian State Prize Evgeny Mironov said: "We decided to be honest, go to a large extent, on the Hamburg score, and try to put ourselves to the maximum the task to do as we want.
